The rules for booking Tatkal tickets at IRCTC are changed again and many travelers must be getting confused. New rules updated by IRCTC will tell you how to book or cancel a ticket at the right time that will result in getting you confirmed ticket as well as save your money during cancelation of tickets. The Indian Railways keep changing their rules for tatkal reservation and leave people confused most of the time.






To Understand the new rules easily we have arranged all these rules into understandable points.


  • Booking for AC Tatkal tickets will begin from 10 AM in the morning while for non-AC at 11 AM (a day before the actual date of travel).
  • As of 1 March 2018, commuters on Mumbai's local train can no longer book their season pass on the IRCTC website.
  • The Indian Railways new app, UTS can be downloaded only on Android devices and used for season ticket bookings.
  • There will be no refund on the cancellation of a confirmed Tatkal ticket, only waitlisted or RAC ticket will get a refund if they canceled the same before 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.
  • If a confirmed reservation has been given to a RAC or a waitlisted ticket holder up to the final preparation of charts, such a tatkal ticket is treated as confirmed.
  • Full refund on the tatkal ticket will be given if the train is delayed by more than 3 hours from the passenger's origin point.



  • Full refund will also be provided if the train is diverted and the passenger doesn't wish to travel by that route and if the passenger's boarding station/destination/both are not on the diverted route.
  • If a passenger is accommodated in a different class than the ticket they booked and is unwilling to travel, they are eligible for a full refund. However, if the passenger agrees to travel in the lower class, they will be paid the difference. A passenger has to file the TDR for the same.
  • The passenger can claim a full refund if the coach in which Tatkal accommodation is provided has been detached from the train and the passenger is not offered accommodation in the same class.
